Dimitrios Kontothanassis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, on May 18, 1970. He enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Padua and graduated in 1996. He graduated in General Surgery of the University of Padua and in 2001 he became assistant professor at the First department of Surgery and Liver Transplant Center in Padova. In 1999 he won the overseas young researcher award at the 101-world congress of surgery in Japan focuse on carotid surgery in the presence of contralateral occlusion.
He enrolled in 2002 in the School of Vascular surgery at the University of Verona and graduated in 2007. In May 2012 he completed a master's degree in health economics and health services management at the University of Ferrara.
Doctor Kontothanassis carries out his clinical and surgical activity in public and private hospitals. He has a complete background in General and Vascular surgery and has a strong interest in venous disease. Up to December 2024 he performed more than 30.000 surgical procedures and more than 150.000 vascular ultrasound examinations.
He pursues an intense didactic and scientific activity. He has collaborated in the training of general and vascular surgeons at Postgraduate Schools and participated in numerous international conferences.
He has organized numerous successful meetings in the past such as the ISVD and organizes the international Phlebosophy conference in Padua. He is national advisor and training tutor of the Italian society of vascular diagnostics SIDV and participated in 2021 in the drafting of the national guidelines in vascular diagnosi for the Italian ministry of health. He is President of the Triveneto section of SIDV, european advisory member IUA and Presidente of the Italian Longevity League .
