Tomasz Urbanek is vascular surgeon from Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. He graduated from Medical University of Silesia in 1992 and completed the training and specialization in general surgery and afterwards in vascular surgery as well as in vascular medicine. Prof. Tomasz Urbanek is the past president of Polish Society of Phlebology as well as member of many international societies including AVF, EVF and American Vein and Lymphatic Society. Prof. Urbanek is member of the Board of European Venous Forum, member of the European Board of Phlebology and was nominated to Board Director position of AVF. He was the organizer and congress president of the International Union of Phlebology Chapter Meeting in Krakow in August 2019. He is also the member of the organizing committee of the EVF HOW and EVF HOW PLUS courses as well as several other phlebological conferences including annually organized International Symposium on Venous Interventions in Krakow and Expert Venous Management – Europe meetings. In June 2025 he will be president of the 25th Annual Meeting of European Venous Forum in Krakow in Poland. His main field of interest is pathogenesis and treatment of chronic venous disease, venous thromboembolism prophylaxis and treatment as well as postthrombotic syndrome. He is the co-founder of the European Centre of Phlebology in Katowice/Poland.
